Happy New Year!

Whether you’re celebrating First Footing – a tradition still practised across the British Isles, when a person, usually but not always a man (the “First Foot”, or “Lucky Bird”), enters the house after midnight on New Year’s Eve, often carrying a gift such as food or a piece of coal for the hearth, and is fed and watered in return, to bring good fortune for the coming year – or enjoying the New Year in more modern ways, I hope 2014 brings you peace, joy and happiness.

Now I’m off to find an evergreen branch, and a sprig of mistletoe…
